Jefferson Davis
Davis is elected President of the Confederate States of America ten days before fellow Kentucky native Lincoln is inaugurated. A graduate of West Point, he leads the 1st Mississippi Regiment in the Mexican War, then serves as a U.S. Senator and Sec. of War. His many presidential critics cite his uptight personality and thin skin, failure to achieve foreign recognition, and favoritism for incompetents like Braxton Bragg over Joseph Johnston. He is captured in 1865 and serves two years in prison until pardoned.
